Dear Mom and Rob,
This is the afternoon of Thanksgiving Day and I’m still resting after a very delicious Turkey dinner. And it was good even if it was cooked Navy style. It goes without saying of course that it didn’t compare with good old home cooking. I’m enclosing a menu. to top it off I had some of your very good cookies that I got today all wrapped up in Christmas paper which I didn’t leave until Christmas to open. Also thanks for the nuts no doubt off our tree the omens and the cedar sprig. It is hanging over the calendar and really smells good. I hope you had an enjoyable day and that maybe nan was able to get home. New line we’ve been out seven days now but haven’t had any mail yet. I guess it got tied up somewhere. This will make the second day in. Didn’t go ashore last night so as we were inclined out and didn’t feel like going ashore in the boats. Got a letter written to missus Thatcher and 1/2 Packer Scott So I think I was better off in the long run.
Called up Opal this afternoon but she had already made arrangements for today. She was going someplace with her girlfriend. I told her that we would be out nine days this time as per usual but it was only six. Because of Thanksgiving, I think. They gave 10:00 liberty to half the crew so the ones that had families in San Diego San Diego could go home for dinner. Naturally most of the fellows who rated and didn’t have any place to go stayed aboard to eat. I see where one movie house is advertising 10 continuous Walt Disney Disney cartoons starting at 10 in the morning for the kids as there is no school tomorrow. How am I going to get off the ship that early? I was thinking about going out and looking up the pay of missus sharps but I doubt if he would stay around the station this afternoon. Might go out anyway Mom and Rob would make this a note and cut it short. Think I’ll go over we’ll try and get a gadget off to today and maybe go bowling after. Did I tell you I made a 207 game the other night? Must have been luck. Much love Don. We’ll write before we pull out
